A LED numeral display, also known as a seven-segment display, is a type of electronic display device commonly used to show decimal numerals. It consists of eight LEDs inside, with seven of them arranged in a shape of the number 8 and the eighth one representing a decimal point. The display illuminates a particular set of LEDs to display different digits or alphabetical characters. The use of seven-segment displays dates back to early 1900 with incandescent bulbs, and it became widespread with the advent of LEDs in the 1970s. Today, they are popular in multiple-digit LCD screens for basic calculators and embedded applications. LEDs are preferred due to their cheapness, long life, small size, availability in various colors, easy integration into other electronic components, and digital circuits.
